Description:
|
The ninth scene as presented in chronological order; there was a change made in the program, ca. 1515-1517, since the Baptism of Christ should have followed the Baptism of the People and preceded the Arrest. These two are on the west wall, which Franciabigio was not given permission to work on during Del Sarto's absence in France. Shearman takes this as a sign that Del Sarto intended to return and finish the project.
