Description:
|
Vincenzo Danti was a goldsmith from Perugia and known more for work in bronze. He may also have been associated with Baccio Bandinelli during his first years in Florence, which would have given him the opportunity to learn to carve marble. Danti carved his group Honour Triumphant over Falsehood for Cosimo I de’ Medici’s chamberlain, the fellow Perugian Sforza Almeni. This is one of the finest works of 16th-century Italian sculpture and Danti’s best work in marble. It is fully in the round and meant to be viewed from all angles.
