Description:
|
Painted probably in 1487 for the Audience Hall of the Massai di Camera (Chamber of Commerce) in Palazzo Vecchio, as is confirmed by the fleurs-de-lys on the frame, referring to the traditional alliance between Florence and France. At the Uffizi since 1780. The Madonna and Child both touch the pomegranate, a symbol of resurrection. The original frame is attributed to Giuliano da Sangallo.
