Description:
|
Roman copy in the style of Praxiteles. The work was found at Tivoli, in the town Aquae Albulae, and has been dated to the late Hadrianic (130-138 CE) period. An Apollo Citharoedus, or Apollo Citharede, is a statue or other image of Apollo with a cithara (lyre). Apollo was frequently depicted riding a griffin (gryphon), or in a chariot pulled by a griffin.
