Description:
|
Piero di Giovanni, known as Lorenzo Monaco was a monk in the Camaldolese Order in Florence. The altarpiece of the "Coronation of the Virgin" now in the National Gallery, London was painted by Lorenzo Monaco for the Camaldolese monastery of San Benedetto fuori della Porta Pinti, Florence, probably between 1407 and 1409. The predella showed scenes from the Life of Saint Benedict; the single panel in the Vatican is from this predella. The panel depicts 'A Young Monk tempted from Prayer' and 'Saint Benedict raises a Young Monk'.
