Description:
|
Documentary evidence shows that the polyptych (London, N.G.; predella panels, Madrid, Mus. Thyssen-Bornemisza; Milan, Galleria Edmondo Sacerdoti; Philadelphia, PA, Mus. A.; Providence, RI Sch. Des., Mus. A.; Rome, Pin. Vaticana) from the high altar of S Pier Maggiore, Florence, was produced in 1370-1371. Niccolò di Pietro Gerini was paid for the overall design of the extensive altarpiece in 1370, while Jacopo was apparently responsible for the execution of the narrative painting, including scenes from the Life of St. Peter in the predella.
