Description:
|
Formerly in Santa Maria degli Angeli, Bologna. It is the only work of Giotto which survived in Bologna, created in the late maturity of the artist, during the final period of his "Neapolitan" activities for Robert of Anjou (King of Naples). There survive for the period 1328-1333 numerous records of Giotto’s work for the Angevin court in Naples. During this time Giotto also visited Bologna, where the influence of Anjou was particularly strong. (Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordartonline.com/)
