Description:
|
A work that shows the "sweetness in united colors" that Vasari praised in Francia and Perugino. Created after 1497, for the Scarani (or Vizzani) chapel in San Giovanni in Monte, Bologna. Mary sits in a mandorla of seraphims with angels on either side. Below stand (from left) the Archangel Michael, St. Catherine of Alexandria, St. Apollonia, and St. John Evangelist.
