Description:

In the Sala delle Prospettive on the upper story of the Villa Farnesina, Peruzzi revived illusionistic Classical techniques of mural painting. The painted architecture supports a frieze with a series of scenes from ancient myths. Even the 'wood' molding along the top and bottom edges is trompe l'oeil, false painted (faux bois). The Sala delle Prospettive is painted on flat walls; only the windows, marble floor and doorways, fireplace (which is also painted) and coffered ceiling are real.
