In 1553-1554, working with Veronese and Giovanni Battista Ponchino, Zelotti painted in oil compartments of the ceiling in the Sala del Consiglio dei Dieci. He was responsible for a putto frieze and Venice Surmounting the Globe which are skillfully executed, as well as this panel. (Despite the title, it may be a personification of Venice victorious in war, since the figure is accompanied by a lion, emblem of Venice, as well as Neptune).
