Description:

Funerary statue of a kouros, with Ionic influences. On the right leg, incised vertically and read from the top down, there is an inscription in the Megarian alphabet which identifies the statue as the doctor Sombrotida, son of Mandrokle. From the south necropolis at Megara Hyblaea (12 miles northwest of Syracuse). There is an extensive necropolis at Megara Hyblaea of which about 1500 tombs have been explored.
