Description:
|
Theatrical scene of practice or preparation for a satirical play with perhaps Aeschylus as choirmaster (choregos). Rich in characters, it takes place in front of a portico with Ionic columns between which hang shields and garlands. It would have been a central emblem in a floor mosaic, in the fine style known as opus vermiculatum. From Pompeii, the House of the Tragic Poet (del Poeta Tragico) (VI.8.5).
