Description:
|
At the center of the group is Dionysus portrayed in idealized beauty. A smaller satyr supports him and a panther is on the other side (little of the panther is original). The work is a Roman copy of 160-180 CE of a Greek original of the 4th century BCE. The size of the group indicates it was intended for a large space; since it was found on the Quirinal hill in the area of the Baths of Constantine, it was probably used in the baths.
