Description:
|
Part of the 2015 "Pompeii" exhibit which featured over 220 archaeological artifacts, most from the Naples National Archaeological Museum. The exhibit was designed to immerse viewers in settings of every day life in Pompeii, complete with state-of-the-art visual effects and soundscapes. This work represents either a distribution of bread by a candidate for office (wearing the 'toga candida' or whited toga of the electoral candidate); or, since he is seated upon a tribunal, and perhaps already an official, the whited toga would, therefore, be a sign of a plebeian office, e.g., aedile of the plebs. A tablinum from House of the Baker, Pompeii. (Source: Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; http://www.mmfa.qc.ca/)
