Description:
In this collage, Chagall used as the base a printer's proof for a plate from his Poémes, published by Cramer in 1968: the sculptural motif of the boot is used upside down, playing on the duality of the forms and forming the body of the character with the tambourine. The very idea of collage results from the desire to see cohabiting images or languages on the same surface. Besides the colored paper glued to the base print, he added watercolor and India ink.
