Description:
|
In 1560 Danti cast the safe door for the personal quarters of Cosimo I as part of Vasari’s continuing transformation of the Palazzo Vecchio. The relief consists almost entirely of framing elements. Its central scene shows Augustus burning the Sibylline Books and is surrounded by allegorical figures. (Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordartonline.com/)
