Description:
|
From the exhibition, With a Wink and a Nod: Cartoonists of the Gilded Age (October 13, 2015 - January 3, 2016). Private collection, published in Puck, June 3, 1891. This cartoon was one of many in Puck on the subject of child care and rearing. Here boys figure out how to turn babysitting into play. It is likely the implication is the baby was left in his siblings' care while the mother is at work. It is unknown if Griffin's cartoon was pure humor or social commentary.
