Unknown painter from Ferrara, possibly Angelo del Maccagnino, who was a frequent collaborator with Cosimo Tura. St. Mary of Egypt is revered as the patron saint of penitents, and after receiving Communion, retired to the desert to live the rest of her life as a hermit in penitence.
