Description:
From the exhibit "Alice Neel. Painter of Modern Life," March 4-September 17, 2017. From the Estate of Alice Neel. Neel was known for her portraits depicting friends, family, lovers, poets, artists and strangers. Her paintings have an expressionistic use of line and color, psychological acumen, and emotional intensity. Here she empathetically captures both the inexperience and slight anxiety of young mothers and the tender bond between mother and child. Ginny was her daughter-in law with her second son, Hartley.
