Description:
|
From the exhibit "Alice Neel. Painter of Modern Life," March 4-September 17, 2017. Quick portrait sketches, which relate to her finished paintings. Neel’s vividly characterized portraits of New York artists and intellectuals such as Robert Smithson, Andy Warhol, and Henry Geldzahler finally brought her fiercely idiosyncratic style to the attention of a wider public. The success of Pop art and Photorealism in the 1960s and 1970s also made Neel’s work more acceptable. (Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordartonline.com/)
