Description:
|
The room was originally used as a waiting room for guests, but also for important ceremonies such as the reading of the banker Agostino Chigi's Will. The room takes its name from the frieze that runs around the top of the walls. Peruzzi frescoed the twelve Labours of Hercules and other deeds performed by the hero, as an allegorical reference to the virtues of his patron, as well as various mythological episodes, incorporating classical antiquity and also late-medieval Ovidian imagery.
