Description:
The meaning of caryatid is a stone carving of a draped female figure, used as a pillar to support the entablature of a Greek or Greek-style building. Here Renoir uses live, nude models to playfully hold up a green garland. This painting is very similar to two decorative panels (also known as Two Bathers) in the Barnes Foundation, (BF919, ca. 1910).
