The Greek-born Italian artist Alberto Savinio (Andrea Francesco Alberto de Chirico) was the younger brother of Giorgio de Chirico; he was also a composer and author. This painting draws on family memories with his brother and compares antiquity and what lies ahead, represented by the sculpture at left and the map at right. (Information from museum label)
