Description:
|
"Still life Arrangement II" was painted in Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France, where Matthew Smith lived between the years 1936-1940. When looking at Smith's still lifes of this period many of the objects he used, such as the round table and the clay figure appear repeatedly. He attended Henri Matisse's Paris studio for a brief period in 1910, and continued to be inspired by him. (Source: Tate Gallery [website]; http://www.tate.org.uk)
