Description:
|
Represents Alexander’s magnanimity towards the mother and daughters of the defeated Darius of Persia. This is the south wall of the room, which was Chigi's bedchamber, adjacent to the banquet hall. Only two of the walls are by Sodoma. Sisygambis, the mother of the defeated Persian ruler, initially mistook Hephaistion for Alexander, but the true ruler inclines graciously toward her. The smithy scene along the base of the wall alludes to the love themes and to the fireplace. (Source: Web Gallery of Art; http://www.wga.hu/in dex.html)
