Description:
|
This is the late Guler style, datable to 1770, during the reign of Prakash Chand (1773-1779). Guler was a regional school of Pahari (one of the schools of Rajput) miniature painting associated with the small principality of Guler in the eastern Pahari hills. The ruling house of Guler served the Mughal empire until 1739 which affected the development of painting in Guler, since paintings were often exchanged and given as gifts. Pahari painting is considered the last vital Hindu art form before the neutralizing effect of the West was felt in the nineteenth century.
