Description:
|
Born in Jesi, Cati moved to Rome, where he was known as a follower, if not pupil, of Michelangelo, and later of Federico Zuccari. He also worked for the Altemps family in the commission for their family chapel in Santa Maria in Trastevere. The frieze depicts the ten divine punishments called down from God by Moses on the Egyptians and on the Jews exodus from captivity. These scenes are painted as faux tapestries, flanked by standing naked figures and putti holding floral festoons. In addition there are twenty-four allegorical personifications identified by a cartouche, which provide moral commentary on the biblical narration.
