Description:
|
Room on the first or noble floor of the Palazzo. The Duchess’ Apartments occupy the northernmost part of the palace, the oldest area of the building, originally known as the "Castle" (Castellare) and rebuilt by Francesco di Giorgio Martini in the 15th century. Brandini worked on the decorations of these apartments and the ones added on the second floor directly above, commissioned by Duke Guidobaldo II della Rovere (1514-1574) in the 1560s. Despite the use of the room, the panels are all scenes from ancient Rome, several of them battle scenes. (Source: Galleria Nazionale delle Marche [website]; http://www.gallerianazionalemarche.it/en/)
