Description:
|
The museum was created during the lifetime of the artist, with the support of the Minister of Culture André Malraux, and inaugurated in 1973. It first housed the series of seventeen paintings illustrating the biblical message. This was later added to with other secular works. Chagall frequently used the motif of the cock or rooster (a symbol of joy or good fortune) with a woman. Marc Chagall discovered the practice of sculpture in 1949 when he moved to Vence, on the Côte d'Azur and worked in both stone and ceramics. (Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page)
