Description:
This relief, along with one showing the crucifixion of Saint Peter, must have formed part of the predella of a marble altar for that saint's chapel in Florence Cathedral. Together with an altar to Saint Paul, it was commissioned from Luca in 1439; neither work was ever finished. These reliefs are of fundamental importance for understanding Luca's interpretation of Donatello's and Masaccio's dynamics of a scene in space. (Source: Thais [website]; http://www.thais.it)
