Description:
|
Zelotti was a contemporary of Paolo Veronese and shared work with him. Zelotti came to embody the Veronese tradition on the mainland. He frescoed several villas (notably the Villa Emo and the Villa Foscari) designed by Andrea Palladio; the exact number is not known. The Council of the Gods was a frequent ceiling theme of the period; Zelotti painted the theme several times, including the Doge's Palace in Venice. The central panel is a square, with figures rendered with extreme foreshortening. Around this are oval paintings in grisaille with elaborate cartouches in stuccowork. Interspersed in the ribs and vaults are small details based on Roman cameos. (Source: Wikipedia; http://en.wikipedia. org/wiki/Main_Page)
