Description:
Mask with a fierce appearance, marked by bulging eyes and a wide mouth with fangs. The forehead and the upper part of the face are not represented, it is perhaps a mask in two parts of which the cap would be missing. These fierce masks represent demons responsible for diseases. They are worn during therapeutic rituals (called tovil). (Source: Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac [website]; http://www.quaibranly.fr/en/)
