Description:
This rectangular panel has a large central portrait of the saint flanked by small scenes of her life. It was formerly located in the Chiesa di S. Cecilia, Florence. It was attributed to the Saint Cecilia Master in 1931 by Offner. The Saint Cecilia Master's works show the influence of Giotto, or the school of Giotto. St. Cecilia is one of the most famous of the Roman martyrs, who, with her husband Valerian, his brother Tiburtius, and a Roman soldier named Maximus, suffered martyrdom in about 230, under the Emperor Alexander Severus.
