Description:
|
Antoninus Pius (9 September 86-7 March 161) was Roman emperor from 138 to 161. He was one of the 'Five Good Emperors' in the Nerva-Antonine dynasty and the Aurelii. He was adopted by Hadrian and named as his successor. As was common in Imperial statuary, the recognizable head of Antoninus was added to an idealized nude body in the classical Greek style, as a means to deify the emperor.
