Work Notes:
|
Bagnaia, the town adjacent to the villa, had functioned as a summer residence for various cardinals from nearby Viterbo since the 15th century. Around 1512 Ottaviano Riario erected a hunting casino on the site of the Villa Lante within a 25 hectar woodland that had been set aside as a hunting park. (Barth, 2001, 43-44)
