Notes:
REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: Open-work warp with multi-color embroidered floral design. Gittinger [1979:145] describes such open-work selendangs, calling the technique "ajoure" and mentioning their use at cremation ceremonies in addition to less special occasions. See Krause 1926:116 & 155 for photos of this type of cloth in use. Accession sheet gives area as Temple of Mengwi(?).
