Deane shop and forge - in 1772, Elkanah Deane, a coach and riding-chair maker, purchased a substantial dwelling which stood at the corner of this property. this smaller building served as his forge. It was been faithfully reconstructed upon original foundations and is operated under the craft program of colonial Williamsburg by a costumed blacksmith who fashions wrought-iron objects with 18th century tools. The exterior is highlighted by the carved horse's head and hollowed log watering trough.
