Near Charleston: Cypress Gardens, part of the Dean Hall Plantation Which in antebellum days was considered a model plantation in the low country, is a mecca for visitors during the late fall to late spring days. Dredged and in some places filled in, the old cypress swamp has become a garden and a lake whose mysterious beauty comes from the waters made dark by the tannic acid from the arboreal giants which still flourish from its depths. The dark and still waters make a perfect mirror for the trees and the blossoms.
