Ponce: The Parque de Bombas of Ponce on the southern coast of P.R. is as famous in its own way as the El Morro of San Juan. now the main fire station of the second city of the island, this red and black striped wooden building has been in existence since 1883. In 1899 when it was the only firehouse in Ponce and its men were volunteers, its engines and men rushed out to save the city of Ponce from destruction when an ammunition dump in the camp of the American forces Blew up. Today it houses modern equipment and has a trained personnel.
