SOUTH CAROLINA Near Charleston: Cypress Gardens, part of the Dean Hall Plantation, considered in the antebellum days as a model plantation, was once the great cypress swamp of the plantation. Today, a mecca for tourists, the swamp has been dredged and filled to form a place for woodland and floral beauty. The knobby protrusions from the waters made dark by the tannic acid from the giant cypresses [cypresses] are called "knees" and are the means of breathing from these trees.Purchased for "M".
