Notes:
REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: Figural style associated with "wayang" or shadow puppet figures found on Java, with profile head, frontal square shoulders, attenuated torso, bent arms and costume details. Figures in upper row wear Javanese court cloth "dodot" characterized by low bustle. They also have a "kris" tucked into waistband [Gittinger 1972:160, Plate 105]. See Gittinger 1972:174-176 for description of marine creatures. Ship is atypical, probably representing a European vessel [Gittinger 1972:133-138]. See entry for X76.1365 for background information on "tampan" and "pelepai" textiles from Lampung, Sumatra.
