REMARKS BY ROY HAMILTON (1988): Constructed of three panels sewn together by hand. Field collected in the home of the weaver. Sarong in use in 1988 but made earlier, probably in the 1970s. The style was identified by the weaver as "lawo sinde". This term is appplied to a variety of sarong designs, all of which are derivations of the designs on "patola" trade cloths of Indian manufacture. See X88.1271 and X88.1272 for other examples of "lawo sinde" sarongs. See X88.1270 for another cloth by the same weaver.
