REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: "Selendang" used as waist, breast or shoulder wrap cloth. Decorated with the "plangi" tie dye technique on imported silk cloth with figured ground. "Plangi" selendangs are used on Bali as dance costume or as attire for entering temples; they are also made for sale to tourists [Gittinger 1979:146].
