REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: Figural style associated with "wayang" or shadow puppet figures found on Java, with profile head, frontal square shoulders, attenuated torso, bent arms and costume details [Gittinger 1972:160]. The figures in this textile resemble those in the central row of Gittinger's Plate 105. See entry for X76.1365 for background information on "tampan" and "pelepai" textiles from Lampung, Sumatra.
