REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: With regard to similar examples [such as Gittinger 1972:Plate 8], Gittinger suggests that the simple box or grid pattern (in our example housing human figures as opposed to birds) completely replaces multiple ship structures [Gittinger 1972:97].
