REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: "Kain panjang" (= long cloth) worn as a wrap-around skirt. Once worn in Java by both sexes, now primarily a woman's garment. Probably "tulis" or hand-drawn batik. Style, and especially color, are characteristic of the batik of Central Java. The dyes used are "soga" brown and indigo.
