REMARKS COMPILED IN 1987 BY ROY HAMILTON ON BASIS OF EXISTING RECORDS, EXAMINATION OF OBJECT, AND REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE: "Tatibin" are the third style of Lampung "ship cloths", rarer and lesser known than the smaller "tampan" or the larger "palepai". They are made with the same supplementary weft technique and served the same functions as decorations and gift wrappings at ceremonial occasions. In particular, "tatibin" were used to decorate a sitting platform for the bridal couple at weddings, where they were part of a tableau that also included "tampan" and "palepai". "Tatibin" were produced in a more limited areas than "tampan", occuring only on the southern coast of Lampung Province [Gittinger 1979:91].
