Description:
Ancient Roman emblemata (fine mosaic pictorial element in the center of a coarser floor mosaic) showing a young Dionysos (or an amorini, since he has wings) drinking and riding a tiger, from the House of the Faun (VI.12.2.34). The House of the Faun (Italian: Casa del Fauno), was one of the largest, and most impressive private residences in Pompeii, and housed many great pieces of art. It is one of the most luxurious aristocratic houses from the Roman republic, and reflects this period better than most archaeological evidence found even in Rome itself.
