Description:
After the 15th century the funeral services of all of Venice's doges were held in San Zanipolo, and twenty-five doges are buried in the church. Pietro Mocenigo (1406-1476) was doge of Venice from 1474 to 1476, and also one of her greatest admirals. This is Pietro Lombardo's grandest funerary monument. Arranged in the form of a triumphal arch, it fills nearly one-third of the interior façade of the church and originally included 17 figures. The Doge stands on top of his sarcophagus, which is supported by three warriors (atlantes). The monument was restored in 1984. (Source: Grove Art Online; http://www.oxfordart online.com/)
