Description:
An unknown artist from the Marches region. The Virgin and Child look at the infant St. John. Above two cherubim hover, while a large cherubim acts functionally as a bracket, appearing to support the framed-in scene above. Although described as "gesso" this piece is probably better described as stuccowork; gesso is a component in making stucco, in different proportions depending on the type of work.
